Glossary of Terms
Genetically Modified Organism – direct manipulation of an organism’s DNA in a laboratory environment

GMO Labeling – the tagging of genetically modified products by suppliers as an indicator to consumers.
High fructose corn syrup – a grouping of corn syrups that has gone through enzymatic processing to produce a substance that is higher in fructose.
Obesity – having an excess of body fat, generally caused by a disproportionately high intake of calories
Cross-Pollination (Allogamy) – when pollen from one plant is delivered to the flower of another, usually unrelated plant.
Nutritional Value – in simple terms, the “usefulness” of a product for human intake.
Allergen – an aggravating bodily reaction, often to the different proteins within certain products or foods.
Toxins – substances that are harmful to the human body; can have negative effects on the small intestine, liver, spleen, and pancreas and are harmful to the immune system and digestive system.
Green Revolution – an initiative by the Obama administration aimed at true environmental change, especially through the use of cleaner energy options.
Organic – products or goods produced using techniques that don’t include artificial or man-made inputs (herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.)
